"Free CS2 commends" is one of the most-searched phrases in this corner of the internet, and honestly, fair. Why pay for something teammates hand out after a good match? Because the free version is never actually free. We've watched this market since 2013, and every free commend operation we've seen runs on one of two business models. Neither of them has you as the customer.
Model One: You Are the Phishing Target
The site asks you to "sign in through Steam" to claim your commends. The login page looks right, down to the green padlock, but it isn't Valve's. Type your credentials there and the commends never arrive; instead, someone walks away with your account, your inventory, and often your saved payment methods. Free commends are a classic lure precisely because the people searching for them are ready to click things.
Model Two: Your Account Becomes the Bot
The other version is the commend exchange: install a tool or hand over an API token, and you get commends because your account silently commends hundreds of strangers in return. Read that again. You wanted commends, and the price is that your account is now part of the commend bot farm, firing automated signals for whoever else joined the exchange, including the cheaters and shadowbanned accounts in the pool.
What That Does to Your Trust Factor
Valve doesn't publish the Trust Factor formula (its official FAQ only says the system reads your history across CS2 and Steam), but association is clearly part of it, and bot networks get purged in waves. When the purge lands, the commends vanish and your profile keeps the connection to a flagged network. Players usually notice as worse lobbies first and figure out the cause much later. If You Actually Want Commends
Two honest routes. The slow one costs nothing: play well, use your mic like a decent human, and collect commends the way Valve intended. We wrote up how to get commends in CS2 if you want the realistic math on that.
The fast one costs money, and the money is the point.
