Type "does trust factor go up with commends" into Google and you'll get a wall of boosting sites all shouting yes. We have sold CS2 commendations since 2013, so you would expect us to shout too. We won't: Valve has never named commends as a Trust Factor input, and we do not claim they are one. Here is what can honestly be said, the version we'd tell a friend.
What Valve Actually Confirms
Valve keeps the Trust Factor formula private on purpose. The official line, straight from Valve's Trust Factor FAQ, is that “the only way to improve your Trust Factor is to be a positive member of the Counter-Strike 2 and Steam community”. The same FAQ names two concrete inputs, a phone number on the account and a CS2 rank, and the 2017 announcement named three more: time played, how often you were reported for cheating, and time spent in other Steam games.
Commendations are not on that list. They are the game's built-in way for teammates to mark you as positive, so it is a reasonable guess that they are somewhere in the picture. It is still a guess. Nobody outside Valve knows whether a single commend moves anything, and anyone quoting you a percentage is making it up. Who Commends You Matters More Than How Many
This is the part we would still put money on, with the caveat that it is a hypothesis about a hidden system, not a measurement of it. Think about how recommendations work anywhere else. One from a person with a real track record carries weight. A hundred from strangers with no history are noise, or worse, a warning sign. If commends count for anything at all, it is hard to imagine Valve counting them any other way than through the standing of the account that sends them.
A commend from a ten-year-old account with thousands of hours and a clean record is a different object than a commend from a week-old empty profile, even though both look identical on your profile page. That's the whole reason our pool is built from accounts we own and have run for years, 6–11 years old with the 6+ add-on, instead of whatever can be mass-registered this week.
When Commends Hurt Instead
The flip side is the one thing here we can back with our own data, and the data is about bans, not Trust Factor. A hundred commends landing within an hour, all from level-zero accounts created the same week, doesn't read as popularity. It reads as a bot farm, and it ties your profile to a network of accounts that sits on the wrong side of every ban wave we have measured. The Honest Answer
Nobody outside Valve knows. Commends are not on Valve's published list of inputs, so we will not tell you they raise the number, and we will not tell you a green badge is coming by Thursday, because Valve doesn't publish the rules. What we can say is narrower: a commend from an aged, clean account lands on your profile the same way a teammate's would, and a burst from a bot panel ties you to accounts Valve bans.
