Steam Community Market fees affect what a seller receives. Valve lists a 5% Steam transaction fee, with a US$0.01 minimum, and an additional 10% for Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2. This guide separates those published rates from our calculator’s euro-based estimates.
Steam and Game Fees
Valve states that the buyer pays the Steam transaction fee and sees it before purchase. The Steam Community Market FAQ (read on 13 October 2026) lists the rates above. They do not establish how our calculator should round every amount or handle every currency.
“You Receive” Versus “Buyer Pays”
Buyer payment and seller proceeds are different amounts. For CS2, our model divides the buyer payment by 1.15 to estimate a base, rounds each fee to the nearest cent, applies its fee minimums, and subtracts the fees from the buyer payment. The seller receives the remainder.
Steam’s own sell dialog rounds each fee down instead, so for many prices it shows the seller one or two cents more than our model does.
Ignoring rounding and minimums, 1 − 1/1.15 is about 13.04%. This is an arithmetic illustration, not a verified effective fee for every Steam sale.
Examples from the Euro Model
These are model results, not confirmed Steam payouts. We picked amounts where our model and the rounding in Steam’s sell dialog give the same split:
- €0.50 buyer payment: €0.02 Steam fee, €0.04 game fee, €0.44 seller proceeds.
- €10.00 buyer payment: €0.43 Steam fee, €0.87 game fee, €8.70 seller proceeds.
- €115.00 buyer payment: €5.00 Steam fee, €10.00 game fee, €100.00 seller proceeds.
In the reverse direction, the model returns a €11.50 buyer payment for a €10.00 seller target, and €10.00 for an €8.70 target.
Minimums in This Calculator
The euro model uses a €0.01 minimum for each fee and a €0.03 minimum buyer payment. Under these assumptions, a €0.10 payment leaves €0.08 for the seller.
Valve’s FAQ states that sellers list and buyers see prices in the currency of their own Steam Wallet, and that some currencies have a minimum sale price. The model’s euro minimums are not established as universal Steam rules.
What the Fee Does Not Cover
Market proceeds stay in your Steam Wallet. They cannot be withdrawn to a bank account or transferred to another Steam account. Valve also states that an unsold listing can be removed.

Use the Steam Market fee tool to explore estimates in either direction: buyer payment to seller proceeds, or a seller target to an estimated buyer payment. Check Steam’s transaction preview before confirming: for many prices it gives the seller a cent or two more than the calculator, and the calculator has not been checked against every currency.
